The Van
The story of the van and I is pretty unreal.
Unfortunately, I suffered a series of strokes out of the blue back in September 2017. A condition called Spontaneous VAD took me down hard. After two flight-for-life helicopter rides and six months of intensive therapy and living with my folks, I discovered that although I had to learn how to walk again, surprisingly, I was able to drive without any problems! I found a Winnebago Revel in Iowa. In June of 2018, I flew out to Forest City, Iowa to pick it up and drive it back. Ever since, the van has been a wonderful way to regain so many of the things that we often take for granted. Van therapy is tough to beat!
I imagined that I could do my consulting work from the freedom of the open road. What I learned along the way, was that the van was helping me to heal in so many ways. Then, as I continued to work on my recovery in Moab, Utah, I got to thinking, “Well, maybe I could rent the van and make a few extra bucks along the way...” Alas, here’s the listing on Outdoorsy.
The idea is simple: rent the van to good people so they can get outside and experience the majesty of the natural world – and make the trip as easy and as wonderful as possible. Just about everything is included; a bike rack, chairs, propane grill, first aid kit, a killer coffee/tea setup, all dishware and utensils, and more. All that you really need to bring are the following 4 things: clothes/gear, food/drink, bedding (a double sleeping bag is ideal - I can provide pillows, just pack standard-sized pillow cases), and a towel. You can also ship anything directly here before your trip. First-class camping that’s super easy! Where do I sign? ;)
The van is “a four-season coach.” It’s warm and cozy in the winter and in crappy weather. Load it up and hit the road!
I’ve been fortunate to have met some really great people from all over the world and they’ve had awesome experiences. Only one guy had a little run-in with a black cow at night – but that’s another story. I’m just happy to be here and be a small part of it all.
